Taylor Swift’s Grammys 2024 dress was a ‘Tortured Poets Department’ Easter egg all along
Leave it to Taylor Swift to pull a fashionable fast one on us all.
When the songstress hit the Grammys 2024 red carPet in February wearing a corseted ivory Schiaparelli Haute Couture gown styled with dark velvet opera gloves and inky diamonds, many Swifties — this editor included — assumed the black-and-white ensemble was a nod to her “Reputation” era, and that the re-recorded version of her edgiest album was imminent.
But Swift went on to announce something entirely different that evening: that a brand-new LP, “The Tortured Poets Department,” was on its way instead. And as it turns out, her Grammys look was actually a hint at the project’s first single: the Post Malone-featuring “Fortnight.”
Swift shared a six-second-long teaser for the track’s music video on Thursday ahead of her album’s drop, and one blink-and-you’ll-miss-it clip shows the superstar wearing a draped dress strikingly similar to the one she selected for the awards show.
Designed by Toni Maticevski, the $5,510 bridal style features the same bustier-style bodice, dramatically draped skirt and thigh-high slit as Swift’s Schiaparelli number from the Grammys.
Swifties were quick to note the near-identical nature of the two designs — and the 14-time Grammy winner herself appeared to confirm the connection by “liking” one fan’s post on X (formerly Twitter) linking the likeminded gowns.

As if to drive the point home further, Swift accessorized her video look with a diamond watch choker similar to the Lorraine Schwartz one she wore to the Grammys — which was widely assumed to be a “Midnights” Easter egg at the time, given that the timepiece was set to 12:00.
Similarly made from a vintage watch, the piece featured in “Fortnight” was custom-made by Joseph Saidian & Sons.
It’s far from the first time Swift — who’s famous for peppering her songs and social media posts with cryptic clues for fans to find — has used fashion as a means to do just that.

In the past, she’s incorporated winks at upcoming music and even her romantic relationships into her wardrobe, utilizing everything from beaded friendship bracelets to her Eras Tour costumes to drive her faNBAse into a frenzy.
“Easter eggs can be left on clothing or jewelry,” Swift told Entertainment Weekly in 2019.
“This is one of my favorite ways to do this, because you wear something that foreshadows something else, and people don’t really usually find out this one immediately. But they know you’re probably sending a message — they’ll figure it out in time.”
