The Washington Nationals and the St. Louis Cardinals meet Sunday in MLB action from Busch Stadium. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best bets for this Game. Here’s a St. Louis Cardinals vs Washington Nationals Prediction.

Starting Pitching Matchup

The Washington Nationals will start DJ Herz here and Herz is 1-4 with a 4.95 ERA and 45 strikeouts this season. This will be Herz’s second career start against the Cardinals. Miles Mikolas will start for the Cardinals here and is 8-8 with a 5.02 ERA and 80 strikeouts this season. In his last five starts against the Nationals, Mikolas is 2-2 with a 2.15 ERA and 16 strikeouts.

Washington Nationals Recap

The Washington Nationals will look to complete the surprising sweep of the Cardinals after taking Game two of the series on Saturday in a 14-3 romp. The series win helped the Nats bounce back from being swept by the San Diego Padres earlier this week.

Nationals Trying To Get Back To .500

CJ Abrams leads the Nationals with 100 hits along with 15 home runs and 50 RBIs to go along with 21 doubles, 6 triples and 19 stolen bases. Luis Garcia Jr. has 18 doubles with 50 RBIs and 15 stolen bases. Jacob Young has 24 stolen bases while Lane Thomas has 28 stolen bases and Jesse Winker has 14 stolen bases with 11 home runs and 45 RBIs this season.

Why the Washington Nationals will win

  • The Cardinals have lost each of their last six games as home favorites against NL East opponents.
  • The underdogs have won each of the Cardinals’ last four games.
  • The Cardinals have failed to cover the run line in each of their last six games as home favorites against NL East opponents.
  • The underdogs have covered the run line in each of the Cardinals’ last six games.

St. Louis Cardinals Recap

The St. Louis Cardinals come into this one looking to salvage something from this series after falling flat in Saturday’s matchup, losing the series as a result. The Cardinals will be looking to avoid the sweep which doesn’t help the fact that they’ve lost back-to-back series after the loss to Pittsburgh earlier in the week.

Cardinals Trying To Keep Above Water

Nolan Arenado has 98 hits along with 14 doubles and 45 RBIs while Brendan Donovan has a team-high 103 hits and 48 RBIs with 22 doubles. Nolan Gorman has a team-high 19 home runs along with 50 RBIs in addition to 13 doubles while Masyn Winn has a .285 batting average and 9 stolen bases. Paul Goldschmidt also has 125 K’s while Gorman has a team-high 138 strikeouts as well this season. Alec Burleson also has 18 home runs and a team-high 60 RBIs as well this year.

Why the St. Louis Cardinals will win

  • The Nationals have lost five of their last six day games following a road win.
  • The Cardinals have won eight of their last 10 day games following a loss.
  • The Cardinals have covered the run line in each of their last five day games against National League opponents following a home loss.
  • The Nationals have failed to cover the run line in five of their last six day games following a road win.

St. Louis Cardinals vs Washington Nationals Prediction

I’m on the over here. Herz has really struggled in some of his recent outings, and while I don’t necessarily love the Cardinals against a lefty, I think this could be a breakout spot for the offense. On the other side, I never know which Miles Mikolas is going to show up, but the Nationals have been really solid against right-handed pitching as of late and have plated 24 runs in two Games of this series so far. I think the over’s well within reach and I’m going to take it here.
