The San Antonio Spurs may have finished the year as one of the NBA’s worst teams, but most feel like the organization’s future is very bright.

With Victor Wembanyama spearheading the franchise, San Antonio has become something of a destination ahead of this summer.

One player that has been frequently linked to the Spurs in recent weeks is Atlanta Hawks guard, Trae Young. It has become something of an accepted fact that he will likely get dealt, and some feel as though he would make for a perfect offensive presence alongside Wembanyama.

There is just one problem, though: the Spurs apparently don’t want him.

“One other note. Spurs fans have been buzzing about the team getting in the mix for a Trae Young trade this summer, as he is the most acclaimed point guard likely to be available,” Kurt Helin of NBC Sports wrote.

“League sources have told NBC Sports not to bet on that happening, as San Antonio doesn’t see Young as a fit with Wembanyama going forward. The Spurs might be more interested in the Hawks’ Dejounte Murray if he is available.”

Instead, another point guard may fit with the Spurs’ plans a little bit better.

“A potential team to watch, should [Chris] Paul and the [Golden State] Warriors part ways, is San Antonio,” Marc Stein wrote this week.

“Among the early personnel rumbles in circulation: The Spurs could emerge as a Paul suitor if they decide to pursue some veteran know-how on a short-term contract basis to furnish presumptive Rookie of the Year winner Victor Wembanyama with more seasoned help in Year 2.”

Will Paul and Wembanyama ultimately end up teaming up in San Antonio come next season? Time will tell.
