Sonya Hussyn calls out colourism and nepotism as ‘excuses’ for actors’ challenges
Pakistani actor Sonya Hussayn in a recent interview dismissed colourism and nepotism as "just excuses" used by those who struggle to make it in the entertainment industry.
The "Tich Button" actor made the remarks during a talk show hosted by fellow actor Ushna Shah.
Hussyn discussed the common tendency among actors to make excuses when they don’t achieve the success they hope for.
She advised aspiring actors to "focus on hard work rather than blaming external factors".
he noted that while some people blame their lack of success on factors like skin tone or nepotism, she believes these are not the real obstacles in the industry.
According to her, true success comes from dedication and perseverance.
Previously, Pakistani actress Saboor Aly discussed skin tone issues on The Tall Talk Show with Hassan Choudary.
When asked about whitening injections, Aly humorously said, "I would have been featured in every drama and turned completely white by now."
Aly reminisced about a time when directors used ivory foundation to lighten actresses' skin—a practice she observed has evolved.
Although she is uncertain about the current state of this trend, Aly now has the autonomy to reject such practices.
The issue of nepotism in the Pakistani Entertainment industry has also been addressed by many.
Emerging actress Shaheera Jalil Albasit, who has appeared in several dramas, mentioned in an interview that ‘favoritism’ and nepotism are prevalent in Pakistan’s television industry, and she has experienced it firsthand.
