Team USA continue to maintain their coMMAnding lead after Saturday’s sessions on day two of the 2024 Solheim Cup at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Virginia with a dominant lead 10-6 advantage over Europe after comfortably winning both morning sessions on Saturday to keep their noses in front.

Bidding to win the women’s team Golf tournament for the first time in seven years, the Americans dominated in Saturday morning’s foursomes and four-ball matches to keep any Team Europe resistance at bay.

In Saturday’s morning session, Anna Nordqvist/Celine Boutier won the last match (1up) to secure an invaluable point for Europe to make it 8-4 after Lexi Thompson/Lauren Coughlin previously overcame Europe’s Maja Stark/Georgia Hall (4&3). Earlier on Saturday morning Esther Henseleit/Charley Hull secured a point for the Europeans with the opening round being won by America’s Allisen Corpuz/Nelly Korda.

Like Friday, Team USA continues to extend its lead after the Saturday morning foursomes session. In one of the most exciting matches of the morning session, Nelly Korda and Allisen Corpuz staged a remarkable comeback, with one of the key moments being Corpuz’s hybrid shot on the 13th hole that defied the probabilities and rolled onto the green, like a ghost. Despite the challenge of an eagle putt, her teaMMAte Korda made it look effortless, propelling the US into the lead after trailing since the second.

Team USA currently has a 4-point lead, allowing them to be more comfortable during today’s afternoon session.

The Solheim Cup: a brief history

While Team USA came out on top in five of the first seven Solheim Cups after its foundation in 1990, the tide has turned in recent years. Since triumphing at Rich Harvest Farms in 2009, the United States have lifted the trophy only twice. The Americans won each of the first six editions that took place in the U.S., but since have lost two of the last three, including at Inverness Club in Ohio in 2021.
