Silly & Subtle Signs Of Fall In New York’s Hudson Valley

Though I may get some hate, or comments asking why i'm rushing summer, with the brutal weather the Hudson Valley endured for the past few months, I think we can all agree we're hopeful for a nice fall.

Just like Memorial Day Weekend signifies the unofficial start of summer, we're quickly approaching Labor Day, the unofficial start of fall, and there certainly are some signs of all the fall things popping up around the area.

Fall Is Coming Indicator # 1: Stewart's Apple Cider Donuts

Though we equally love swinging by the local Stewart's to grab a scoop (or two) of our favorite flavor of ice cream, there's just something about their apple cider donuts that draw you in.

Maybe it has something to do with the smell, you don't really smell ice cream and make a beeline for the counter to get one the way you do with these donuts...or do you?

A fall staple, the Stewart's cake donuts with a nice coating of apple cider and cinnamon sugar are a sure sign of brisk mornings and leaves falling, both soon to come.

Fall Is Coming Indicator # 2: Mums At The Grocery Stores & Local Farms

Now, i've been called out in years prior for buying mums too early, but I'm a bit of a nerd and like to have the front of my house decorated for fall to take pictures of my daughter on the first day of school. However, it isn't always easy to find these fall-tastic plants prior to Labor Day...or is it?

Shop Rite in Poughkeepsie had theirs out on Sunday August 18th when I went grocery shopping. No, I didn't pick any up...yet.

Fall Is Coming Indicator # 3: Halloween Candy Everywhere

Since we're all friends here, you can admit if you've been in the same boat; the Halloween candy gets put out at the store, you score a great sale and stock up for 10/31, oops, come mid-September there's no candy left and then you look as sad as this cat sitting next to the half empty bowl on Halloween.

I'm not sure about you, but I definitely feel like the candy was out very early this year, and it seems like they've been running sales earlier, too. I haven't bought a single bag...yet.
