School Vacation Idea: Camping with Color at Warwick Center for the Arts

Camping with Color: 2024 WCFA School Vacation Art Camps are here!

The Warwick Center for the Arts (WCFA) invites local students to join their annual school vacation and summer art camps for youth ages 6 to 15.

WCFA’s fun and creative “April School Vacation Art Camp” will be held from April 15 – 19, 2024, with both full- and half-day sessions available. Campers can choose either morning sessions (9:00-11:30), afternoon sessions (12-2:30), or both. Every day at WCFA Art Camp includes not only art making, but also music, Games, and several outdoor breaks (weather permitting).

“WCFA Art Camps have been offered every summer for over 25 years without missing a beat – even during the Covid-19 Pandemic. Many of our camper parents are former campers themselves, and they enjoy the flexible schedule, warm atmosphere (although the classroom is air conditioned!) and affordability” said WCFA Executive Director, Danielle Salisbury.

Starting at $40 per session, classes are affordable and partial tuition scholarships are available. Choices include:

• Young Art Masters (Grades 1-5): daily, half-day camps for young creatives to learn about the classic art Masters while building their skills and confidence in painting, drawing, collage and sculpture. Each day will feature a new artist, such as Degas, Van Gogh, and Picasso.
• Recycle, Repurpose, Renew & Recreate (8 years+): daily, half-day camps planned in conjunction with the current art exhibit in the gallery, “Talkin’ Trash,” students learn how to use everyday materials and found objects to create beautiful artworks, transforming and recycling materials into art.
• Cartooning Basics (8 years+): full week camp where students will learn the basic drawing techniques for cartooning, storytelling and developing characters
• Drawing Comic & Manga Style Book Covers (Grades 5-8): full week camp where students learn to create eye-popping covers for adventure-style comic books and Manga graphic novels. Working professional artists lead the camps. A few of the teaching artists include textile artist Deborah Siravo, mixed media artists and retired art educator Barbara Larned, and comic book artist Jerry Shippee, whose CLAMCAKES comic strip on Instagram follows the antics of Clay and Connie. “Our small size and nurturing environment enables us to get to know each camper’s individual needs and requirements for a joyful and enriching camp experience” says Salisbury.

Warwick Center for the Arts is a nonprofit arts organization serving the community for almost 50 years.
