Real Madrid 'monitoring' Trent Alexander-Arnold ahead of Liverpool contract expiry
Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold is on Real Madrid's radar ahead of the expiry of his contract in 2025, according to reports.
Alexander-Arnold is in the final 18 months of his current deal and there have not yet been talks over an extension, with Liverpool currently working on finding a new manager after striking a deal to hire Richard Hughes as their new sporting director.
His perilous contract situation has piqued the interest of Madrid who, as first revealed by Relevo, are "exhaustively monitoring" Alexander-Arnold's future at Anfield.
Madrid are on the hunt for a long-term solution at right-back, with current starter Dani Carvajal turning 32 last January, and the Spanish side are aware that they are approaching an ideal time to make a move for Alexander-Arnold.
Urging targets to refuse extensions has been a key strategy for Madrid in recent years. Their pursuit of Kylian Mbappe is clearly the most high-profile but Madrid are also working to convince Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies to make the switch.
Madrid have not yet contacted Alexander-Arnold or Liverpool but are keen to find out his plans for the future.
Liverpool are yet to hold talks with their academy graduate but are expected to try and tie Alexander-Arnold down to a new deal in the coming months, although there is an awareness of the dangers that come with allowing a star player to reach this point in their contract.
Alexander-Arnold is one of many big-name right-backs linked with Madrid in recent months, with the likes of Chelsea's Reece James and Bayer Leverkusen's Jeremie Frimpong also touted as potential targets.
Manchester City's Yan Couto, an outspoken Madrid fan currently on loan at Girona, is also seen as a likely candidate to join the club next summer.
