On Tuesday, just two days after the Dallas Cowboys were humiliated at home for the third time this season in a 47-9 blowout loss to the Detroit Lions, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones joined 105.3 The Fan’s radio hosts, Shan Shariff, RJ Choppy, and Bobby Belt to discuss the Game. You’ve probably heard that didn’t end well.

When they confronted Jerry about his decisions to not sign any significant free agents in the offseason and his failure to upgrade the roster after losing several key stars, he became extremely defensive. Rather than taking responsibility or showing any amount of accountability, Jones simply cut them off and threatened to have them fired. He even defended his response later by saying that the radio hosts aren’t “football people” and that he shouldn’t have to take criticism from “the guys I’m paying”.

To clarify, Jerry Jones does not in fact pay the hosts of 105.3 The Fan, which is a Cowboys flagship station. That fact simply gives the hosts access to the Cowboys’ staff and players. Audacy, not Jones, signs the radio hosts’ paychecks. The following morning, the hosts discussed the conversation on their show again.

“It’s really insulting, really demeaning, really insulting and again, out of nowhere,” said Shariff. “We have done 14 years of interviews with this man.”

“I didn’t get upset with it, but it was like, ‘You know what? Screw you man,’” added Choppy.

Jerry’s reaction sparked outrage all over the media. Former NFL tight end Shannon Sharpe said he “detests” and “despises” people who “prey on the weak” and that he would be happy as long as the Cowboys never win a Super Bowl under Jerry Jones. WFAA’s Mike Leslie made sure to let Jerry know the media won’t stop criticizing his decisions, regardless of who he actually fires. Fox 4′s Mike Doocy called Jerry “a billionaire bully pissed off because he wasn’t hearing exactly what he wanted to hear”.
