Prince Harry and Meghan Markle privately reached out to Kate Middleton after the Princess of Wales revealed that she had been diagnosed with cancer, Page Six can confirm.

In addition to the personal gesture, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex — who have a strained relationship with the royal family — sent a public message to Middleton after she somberly announced her shocking diagnosis on Friday.

“We wish health and healing for Kate and the family, and hope they are able to do so privately and in peace,” the couple, who left the royal family in 2020, said in a statement.

In a video message, Middleton, 42, shared that she learned about her cancer diagnosis after she underwent a planned abdominal surgery in January.

“In January, I underwent major abdominal surgery in London and at the time, it was thought that my condition was non-cancerous,” she explained. “The surgery was successful. However, tests after the operation found cancer had been present.”

The mom of three said she is now in the early stages of undergoing “a course of preventative chemotherapy.”

Middleton said the illness “came as a huge shock” to her and her husband, Prince William, and they have been doing everything they can to “process and manage this privately” for the sake of their three children: Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5.

“We hope that you will understand that, as a family, we now need some time, space and privacy while I complete my treatment. My work has always brought me a deep sense of joy and I look forward to being back when I am able, but for now, I must focus on making a full recovery,” she added.
