New York Yankees Betting Preview

Over on the Yankees’ side, they split their first two weekend games with the Tampa Bay Rays 5-3 (win) and 2-0 (loss). In the Sunday rubber match New York posted four runs in the fifth inning during a 5-4 win. Luis Gil went 5.2 innings in the start with two hits, three walks and nine Ks along the way.

As starting pitcher for the Monday matchup, New York is going with Carlos Rodon. This year Rodon has a 1-1 record with a 3.66 ERA in four starts. Over his MLB career Rodon is 60-55 with a 3.83 ERA in 170 Games (165 starts).

I might take a stab on Oakland as a value play here. Sears had a bit of a bumpy outing versus Detroit early this month (5.2 innings; four earned) however he’s been very good since then. In his last pair Sears has a combined 11.1 innings with one earned on three hits and six walks.

On Sunday Oakland got a couple of sketchy pitching performances from Stripling and Mitch Spence (1.1 innings; two earned). The offense couldn’t find much success either; at least a couple of the big bats came up short. The A’s are going to need Sears to post a big outing—and get a few opportunistic runs—but I think they’ve got an outside shot at a win if all goes well.
