Nottingham Forest appeal Premier League points deduction
Nottingham Forest have confirmed they are appealing the Premier League's decision to deduct them four points for breaches of Profit & Sustainability Rules (PSR).
The Premier League announced last week they had docked four points from Forest's tally this season as punishment following a review from an independent commission.
Forest have now taken the step to appeal this verdict and released a statement on Monday outlining their intentions.
"Nottingham Forest can confirm that it has today lodged an appeal against the four point sanction imposed by the Commission in relation to the Club's breach of the Premier League's Profit & Sustainability Rules (PSR). The club will not be making any further statement at this time," the statement read.
The Premier League released a statement of their own to recognise Forest's decision, commenting: "Nottingham Forest Football Club has appealed the decision of an independent Commission to impose a four-point deduction on the club, after its admission of a breach of the Premier League's Profitability and Sustainability Rules.
"The club lodged the appeal to the Chair of the Judicial Panel today, who will now appoint an Appeal Board to hear the case."
The Premier League have made 24 May the backstop date for appeals to be heard - five days after the 2023/24 season ends on 19 May.
Forest were plunged into the relegation zone when they were deducted four points last week, slipping beneath Luton Town in the standings. Nuno Espirito Santo's side are now one point behind the Hatters with eight rounds of fixtures remaining.
Everton, who have faced a six-point penalty this season for PSR breaches, are also set to face another commission over a second financial charge. They currently sit four points clear of Forest.
