The Devils finished 13th out of 16 teams in the Eastern Conference last season. This is a big jump to the 4th-most likely team out of the East to win the Stanley Cup. 2024/25 NHL Stanley Cup longshot picks

Tampa Bay Lightning (+2500)

Although the Lightning did not keep up their pace of reaching the Stanley Cup Final, they have not gone anywhere from the playoff picture. Tampa made a calculated move to let Steven Stamkos walk and brought in another valuable player in Jake Guentzel. This is a deep, experienced roster with a winning coach. Detroit Red Wings (+4000)

Fans in Detroit are getting impatient after their 8th consecutive season of missing the playoffs, but this might be the team worth waiting for. Similar to Colorado, any team with Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang has a chance. The Penguins narrowly missed the playoffs last year and had a nice offseason, which should keep them in contention. This is a veteran-laden roster that knows how to play in the postseason. They just have to get there and see what happens.
