Today’s NHL prop picks and best bets
Prop bet #1: Brady Tkachuk anytime goalscorer
+185 at FanDuel
The Ottawa Senators rank in the Top 10 of the league in goals scored per Game, shots on goal per Game, and power play percentage. Leading the way is forward Brady Tkachuk, who is first on the team in both goals (seven) and power-play goals (four).
This success is likely to continue against Boston, a team ranked in the bottom half of the league in goals allowed per game, shots on goal allowed per game, penalty minutes taken per game, and penalty kill percentage.
Subsequently, goaltender Jeremy Swayman has struggled behind the product in front of him, posting a .894 SV% and 3.14 GAA through 10 starts.
Prop bet #2: Tim Stutzle anytime goalscorer
+240 at FanDuel
My thinking here is simple: I am confident at least one of Tkachuk or Tim Stutzle scores in this game, which guarantees a profit. If both score, all the better.
Stutzle skates alongside Tkachuk on the first line, which is expected to go against Tyler Johnson, Pavel Zacha, and David Pastrnak. Johnson is a new addition to that line, but Zacha and Pastrnak have typically struggled defensively when skating together.
Furthermore, Tkachuk and Stutzle both skate together on PP1, which could strike against a Boston team last in penalty minutes taken per game and 22nd in penalty kill percentage. Finally, Tkachuk and Stutzle have both scored in two of Ottawa’s past five games.
Prop bet #3: Conor Garland Over 0.5 power play points
+330 at bet365
Later in the evening, the Vancouver Canucks host the Edmonton Oilers. You can’t talk about a poor penalty-killing unit without discussing the Oilers, who rank last in the NHL with a troubling 59.5% kill rate.
At that number, it’s worth backing a member of Vancouver to record a power play point at +330: Conor Garland. He has recorded three PP points over the past 10 games, and none of those outings came against this poor penalty-killing unit.
Additionally, I don’t trust goaltender Stuart Skinner, who is 3-5-1 with a .885 SV% and 3.28 GAA.
