New Legislation in New York Will Add Holiday Cheer
Just in time for Leaf Peeper season, Apple Picker weekends, and the Holidays the Governor of New York has signed landmark legislation that will benefit New York's small craft manufactures of spirits, ciders, and meads. Now when you discover a small batch at a distillery or brewery in New York you will be able to ship to your friends and yourself.
This new legislation will allow New York Spirit and Cider makers to ship their unique products directly to consumers in New York and across state lines. This will open up a new way to distribute these unique products without the makers having to find a distributor to do it for them.
Governor Hochul Signs Shipping Legislation for New York's Craft Makers
According to the information in a press release dated earlier this week which announced the signing of this legislation, New York is home to the largest number of craft cideries in the nation. I don't find that surprising being that we have so many wonderful local growers who help provide the product.
When signing this piece of legislation Governor Hochul also stated:
“New York’s craft manufacturers create distinctive, world-class products that deserve a broader audience,This legislation levels the playing field, allowing these small producers to reach new markets and foster economic growth across the state. With this new law, we are ensuring that New York remains a national leader in craft beverages, continuing to support our local Businesses, tourism, and agriculture.” (via Press Release 8/19/2024)

During COVID-19 New York manufacturers of Sports and ciders were granted a temporary direct-to-consumer privilege but those had expired with the end of COVID. It may have taken a few years since COVID to get this back on the table, but here it is, and just in time for you to send your favorite New York spirits, ciders, and meads to all your friends directly from the maker for the Holidays. This legislation goes into effect in 90 days.
