The Los Angeles Lakers have gotten off to a decent start to the 2024-25 NBA season.

They are 4-2 through six games and seem to be in a better place mentally than last year.

That said – issues remain. They have suffered some embarrassing losses already and LeBron James has already shown he doesn’t have a ton of patience for J.J. Redick.

If L.A. wants to truly compete for a title, they need to make a big move. Their current biggest trade target is a matter of public record.

But over the weekend, the Lakers became linked to another massive deal.

This one involves them, the Brooklyn Nets, Indiana Pacers and Washington Wizards.

In the proposed four-team trade, L.A. would get Came Johnson, Myles Turner, and Dennis Schroder; Indiana would get Jarred Vanderbilt, Jonas Valanciunas, and a 2029 first-rounder from the Lakers; Brooklyn would land D’Angelo Russell, Rui Hachimura and a 2031 first-rounder from the Lakers; and Washington would get Gabe Vincent and 2025 second-rounders.

It is rare to have a trade that is a win-win-win-win across the board – but this is definitely that.

The Lakers would ship off players that they want to dump anyway in favor of guys who can bring in the two things they desperately need: defense and shooting.

Brooklyn would get Russell back, someone who thrived with the Nets, as well as a key role player and draft capital.

Indiana finally gets to dump Turner for a big package – something they have tried to do for years. This allows them to further retool around Tyrese Haliburton.

Finally, the Wizards launch their much-needed rebuild in strong fashion. Sometyhing they too desperately need to do.

This is a win-win-win-win across the board.

Will this trade actually happen? It’s impossible to say. Should it, though? Absolutely.
