Lakers Front Office’s Preference Between Trae Young, Bronny James

The Los Angeles Lakers will have a first-round draft pick to work with this coming offseason.

They will either be able to expend it on a young up-and-coming collegiate prospect or use it in a package to acquire an established star.

If L.A. decides it wants to go after a star, one in particular has been strongly linked to the franchise for months.

That player? Trae Young of the Atlanta Hawks.

Should Los Angeles go in the other direction and draft someone, given how weak this year’s draft is, the only logical choice may end up being taking Bronny James.

Obviously Bronny himself didn’t do much in his freshman collegiate campaign to warrant a first-round selection, but taking him would be a move to appease LeBron James.

As noted by Fadeaway World, though – the prospect of pleasing LeBron may not be a strong enough pull to take Bronny, though.

“While drafting Bronny James would undoubtedly generate significant attention and excitement, Pelinka must weigh the long-term implications against the potential benefits of acquiring a proven star like Trae Young,” the report noted.

“With the Lakers’ championship window potentially closing as LeBron nears the end of his career, Pelinka may view the opportunity to trade for a player like Young as a more immediate path to contention.”

Young has his flaws, particularly when it comes to his stat-padding and poor defense, but he is already a better player than even Bonny’s projected ceiling.

What direction will the Lakers opt to go in this summer? Time will tell.
