Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s father says his son “always used to and still dreams of playing for Real Madrid”
Badri Kvaratskhelia, father of Napoli winger Khvicha, has once again said that his son has “always wanted to play for Real Madrid”.
The Georgian winger has never hidden his love of Real Madrid, who Khvicha’s Napoli played on Wednesday in the UEFA Champions League group stage. Goals from Rodrygo, Belligham, Nico Paz and Joselu sealed a 4-2 win for the home team, who ran out comfortable winners in the end. Kvaratskhelia, for his part, had a quiet game at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu.
‘For Khvicha, playing against Real Madrid was special’
Following the conclusion of the tie, Badri Kvaratskhelia said to Georgian media that the 22-year-old from Tbilisi still holds the Spanish club dear to his heart. “Khvicha always used to and still does dream of playing for Real Madrid. I’m sure of it”, he said. “For Khvicha, playing against Real Madrid was special. In my family they’re all Madridistas except myself.”
As mentioned, it is not the first time that the player’s love for the 14-time European champions has been made public: back in March, Mamuka Jugeli, the player’s agent, said that “[Khvicha’s] father, Badri, and I are fans of Barcelona, but Kvara loves Madrid. He’s a player who has what it takes to play at that level; he’s good enough to play for any team in the world. If I saw him in the Barça shirt, I’d be very happy - but he’s a Madridista.”
Back in June, Badri made comments about his son once day playing for Madrid, saying : “Kvaratskhelia’s dreams, his main goals, are to win the Champions League, play for Real Madrid and reach the top international tournaments with Georgia”.
Could Kvaratskhelia move to Real Madrid?
The Georgian winger has been loosely linked with Real Madrid on occasions, but the team that have been linked the heaviest with Khvicha most recently has been Todd Boehly and Chelsea, who has pockets so big that I reckon he must tuck them into his socks.
The 12 goals and 13 assists that Khvicha managed last season helped end a 33-year Serie A title drought in Naples and as such, he is now seen as a potential option for Mauricio Pochettino, who could really do with another attacker in his squad.
Kvaratskhelia’s contract with Napoli runs until June 2027 and a potential fee, although nothing has been made concrete, would certainly be around the €100 million mark.
