Jurgen Klopp's message to Jarell Quansah after Man Utd mistake
Jurgen Klopp has backed Jarell Quansah to learn from the mistake that cost Liverpool the lead in Sunday's 2-2 draw with rivals Manchester United.
The 21-year-old's wayward pass to Virgil van Dijk saw the ball land at the feet of Bruno Fernandes, who executed a superb long-range effort to catch Caiomhin Kelleher out of position and level the scores at 1-1.
The goal marked a turning point in the Game at Old Trafford, with Fernandes' effort the home side's first shot after Liverpool had rained down 15 efforts on Andre Onana's goal.
Luckily, from Liverpool's perspective, they were able to rescue a late point after Kobbie Mainoo had given United the lead, as Mohamed Salah slotted home from the penalty spot with six minutes remaining after Aaron Wan-Bissaka was adjudged to have fouled Harvey Elliott.
Speaking after the game, Klopp was quick to absolve Quansah of any blame for his mistake, and instead placed emphasis on how the youngster bounces back and learns in the future.
"As a Football player in the Premier League, and playing for Liverpool, I have the bad news it will not be the last mistake in his life, unfortunately," Klopp said.
"That's how life is. I thought he dealt extremely well with it, we dealt well with it. But when our idols in the past made these kinds of mistakes, there was no social media so I hope he's smart enough to switch that off.
"We want to play football and keep the ball and play build-up. It is not a great situation but there are bigger mistakes in football. Bruno saw the opportunity and took it and that's how it is.
"There is absolutely no blame or criticism, not at all, it just happens. He will learn from it and that's the best thing that can happen."
The dropped points saw Liverpool fail to leapfrog Arsenal, who beat Brighton & Hove Albion 3-0 on Saturday, at the top of the Premier League table, with the two sides now level on 71, one clear ahead of reigning champions Manchester City. Crucially, Mikel Arteta's side boast a superior goal difference of nine, having also scored three more goals than Klopp's side.
