Joshua Morrow is a proud dad.
In an interview with PEOPLE at The Young and the Restless 13,000th episode celebration on Oct. 25, the actor shared that his son Crew didn’t showed interest in acting until recently, but is now starring on The Bold and the Beautiful.
“I never had dreamed that for him,” Joshua said. “This kid was a superstar Lacrosse player. I thought he was going to be playing in college. I was going to fly around the country and be able to watch him. And when he told me he wanted to be an actor, I’m like, ‘Dude, it’s so hard. It’s not as easy.’ And the guy got a job right out of the chute.”
“He’s very driven,” the father-of-three continued. “He writes scripts. He really wants to be something in this medium.”
When asked if he had any hand in getting Crew the job, Joshua said no but admits that “he probably got a longer look entering the room.” Still, he credited his son for securing the role.
“Me being who I am has no bearing whatsoever on him,” he explained. “The kid is so much better than I was when I was his age. I watch his scenes. He is turning him, he’s hitting them. He’s awesome to watch. So I had nothing to do with it. I helped him run his lines a couple times and now he wants nothing. He’s his own man. I’ve got nothing but unbelievable confidence in him and he’s going to do it his way.”
Joshua said that out of all his children, Crew was the “least receptive” to taking his help, describing him as being on his “own path.” Because of that, Joshua shared it was a big shock to see Crew go into acting on a daytime television show.
“I cannot believe it,” he admitted. “If he would’ve told me a year ago, I’d be like, ‘No chance. There’s no way this kid’s going to end up on the soap opera.’ And he is, and he’s killing it. I couldn’t be more proud of him.”
Going forward, Joshua said he will “trust his process” and not step on Crew’s toes despite them now working in the same industry. He also revealed the contract on the soap opera is for three years, so viewers will get a chance to know Crew better.
“Everybody’s sort of got their own thing,” he shared. “I only offer my help when I think he may take it, because like I said, this kid came out of the womb like, ‘I’m going to do things my way and I need you to get out of my way.’”
As for himself, Joshua said reflecting on his time on The Young and the Restless has highlighted how lucky he has been in his career.
“My first day I can relay it minute-by-minute how it went down,” he shared. “Because even from the moment they hired me, I knew that my life had changed in a way that I never could have expected. My first day was just the most exciting thing because I was like, I didn’t know I could be doing it 30 years later, which I’ve been now on the show 30 years.”
“It meant so much to me because the odds of getting a job like this are not great,” he concluded. “They’re not in your favor. And so that day I just felt like I had started my path.”
