The winners of this weekend’s 2024 Carabao Cup final will receive prize money which, by today’s standards in elite men’s soccer, is positively paltry.

According to widespread reports, the EFL Cup’s showpiece event is worth just £100,000 ($127,000) to the team that lifts England’s secondary domestic cup, while the runners-up will receive £50,000 ($63,500).

2024 Carabao Cup final: where, what time?

Meeting in the fixture for the second time in three years, Chelsea and Liverpool face off in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley Stadium today, Sunday 25 February 2024. Kick-off in London is scheduled for 10am ET/7am PT.

Soccer fans in the United States can watch the Game live on the streaming platform ESPN+.

You’ll also have the option of following live-text coverage of Chelsea vs Liverpool right here at AS USA. Joe Brennan will be building up to the clash from about an hour ahead of kick-off, before talking you through all the action.

How does Carabao Cup money compare to other competitions?

The sum up for grabs at Wembley today is dwarfed by the prize fund available in the final of the FA Cup, the English men’s Game’s top-tier cup comPetition.

According to figures published by the FA Cup’s organisers, the Football Association, May’s final comes with a £2 million ($2.5 million) cash prize for the winners, with £1m ($1.25m) set aside for the losing team.

And comparisons with the finals of the two most prestigious European cup competitions in men’s soccer are even more striking.

At the 2024 Europa League final in Dublin - which Liverpool remain in contention to reach - the winners of the continent’s second-tier club trophy will earn an €8.6m ($9.3m) bonus, UEFA says.

This year’s UEFA Champions League final in London, meanwhile, is worth €20m ($21.7m) to the winning team - around 170 times more than the Carabao Cup decider.
