How much has Jets edge rusher Haason Reddick been fined for the contract holdout?

The New York Jets will begin their 2024 season against the San Francisco 49ers on Monday Night Football. However Haason Reddick, the Jets’ main off-season acquisition, will play no part.

After two years with the Philadelphia Eagles, Reddick was traded to the Jets back in April with a conditional third-round draft pick going in the opposite direction. But Reddick is demanding an improved contract from the Jets and refused to take part in the team’s preseason preparations.

Reddick formally requested a trade on August 12 but general manage Joe Douglas maintained that the team will not sanction a move. As such, Haason Reddick is still a contract holdout after a tense summer, costing him a significant amount of money while he stays away from team facilities.

How much has the contract holdout cost Haason Reddick?

After impressing with the Carolina Panthers in 2021 Reddick was snapped up by the Philadelphia Eagles ahead of the 2023 season, signing a three-year $45 million deal. He was a part of the Eagles team that made it to Super Bowl LVII.

He joins the Eagles in the final year of that three-year deal and had a non-guaranteed base pay of $14.25 million for the 2024 season. However he is demanding a long-term extension, which the Eagles are reluctant to offer. While the situation remains unresolved, Reddick has refused to attend the team’s facility.

After skipping training camp ESPN report that Reddick was hit with mandatory fines totalling $2.05 million. For each regular season Game that he is absent for, he’ll be hit with another $800,000 fine. But while the financial pain racks up for Reddick, the Jets are showing no signs of giving in to end the embarrassing public spat.

“I’ll stand firm that when he gets here, we’re going to welcome him with open arms,” Jets head coach Robert Saleh said on Saturday. “We’re going to love him up, and he’s going to be a part of this football team and he’s going to help us win a lot of football games. He’s got to sort through the financial stuff, which is none of my business.”
