Gwen Stefani reunites with No Doubt for nostalgic Coachella set: ‘It’s been 9 f–king years!’

Gwen Stefani was feeling “hella good” this weekend.

The singer officially reunited with her band, No Doubt, Saturday night during day two of the 2024 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, Calif.

“It’s been nine f–king years!” the frontwoman exclaimed on stage, where she was joined by bassist Tony Kanal, guitarist Tom Dumont and drummer Adrian Young for the first time in nearly a decade. “I was thinking we should dust off some of the old s–t.”

The band stayed true to that sentiment throughout the duration of their 80-minute set, performing a nostalgic show that fans called “absolutely phenomenal,” “so iconic” and “one of the best performances of the year” on social media.

“Damn! #NoDoubt just took me way back,” one person tweeted via X, with another adding, “No Doubt was so f**king good, they sounded great and the chemistry between them was all still there. I’m so happy and I need them to tour.”

Paying homage to their signature rock style of the ’90s and ’00s, No Doubt took the stage in coordinating plaid ensembles. Stefani’s look consisted of a cropped top, matching bra and pants with zippers over black fishnet tights, complete with her famous slicked-back space buns and deep red lipstick.

The band performed hits like “Hella Good,” “It’s My Life,” “Underneath It All,” “Sunday Morning” and “Don’t Speak,” with Stefani keeping the massive crowd entertained with her high energy stage antics.

At one point, No Doubt was joined by surprise guest Olivia Rodrigo – chic in an “I ❤️ ND” tank top – for a rendition of “Bathwater,” followed by 54-year-old Stefani performing push-ups effortlessly just moments before belting out “Just a Girl.”

The band wrapped their set with “Spiderwebs” (a classic hit from their 1995 album, “Tragic Kingdom”), which received roaring applause from festivalgoers in the Southern California desert.

Ahead of No Doubt’s Coachella reunion, Stefani teased earlier this month that she and her bandmates were planning “to do something cohesive and nostalgic” with their onstage looks.

“I feel like wearing plaid has always been there and is signature for the band. I sent some references to the band, and we thought this would be a cool way to have something similar but with our individual styles at the same time,” the GXVE Beauty founder told Us Weekly.

“Part of me wants to do a blue eyeliner, which I’ve never really done on stage for a No Doubt show, but the other part of me thinks I may not want to do that with a red lip. I have my red lipstick formula, Original Recipe, that I always wear on stage. I do my own makeup for every show.”

No Doubt’s 2024 Coachella performance marked their first reunion in nearly a decade. The band, which was formed in Anaheim, Calif., in 1986, reunited back in 2012 for the release of their sixth album, “Push and Shove,” and played a couple of shows in 2015 before focusing on solo projects.

As for what’s next for No Doubt? Stefani told Nylon earlier this month that while she’s “open to anything,” the band has no set plans to get back into the studio post-Coachella. She also admitted that, leading up to the gig, they weren’t in constant communication and hadn’t “really hung out or done anything” together.

“[Coachella is] going to be a really nice bow to tie on the relationship, because we were kids [when we met],” she explained. “I already know what it’s going to feel like because we’re just so in sync when we’re on stage. It’s going to feel like riding a bike again. We’re going to be laughing, and we’re going to look at each other and go, ‘Oh my gosh — there you are.’”

Elsewhere in the cover story, Stefani confessed that she had some regret over how much time she spent with the band after welcoming her three kids – Kingston, 17, Zuma, 15, and Apollo, 10 – with ex-husband Gavin Rossdale. She and the Bush frontman started dating in 1995 (following Stefani’s years-long romance with her bandmate Kanal) and were married from 2002 to 2016.

“I’d be like, ‘Oh my God … I didn’t have dinner with my family, and I didn’t write a song,’” explained Stefani, who wed country singer Blake Shelton in 2021. “’I wasted an entire day of my life trying to be in No Doubt again.’”

Still, Stefani confirmed she’s not ready to give up her music endeavors just yet following the success of solo projects like “Love. Angel. Music. Baby.” (2004), “The Sweet Escape (2006)” and “This Is What the Truth Feels Like” (2016).

“It’s like drugs. I mean, if I did drugs and they were really great or something — I don’t. But I’m saying: You want it so bad, you can’t stop once you know that feeling,” the three-time Grammy winner said of the songwriting process.

“I almost feel guilty about it, or like I have to justify it or feel bad that I’m doing it. Like, ‘You should just get on with your life.’ But I really still want to do it! I want to live my purpose … I want to contribute still.”

No Doubt will also perform during weekend two of Coachella, which runs Friday, April 19 to Sunday, April 21 at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, Calif. Other bands and artists on this year’s stacked lineup include Deftones, Lana Del Rey, Tyler, the Creator, Doja Cat, J Balvin, Ice Spice and Blur.
