Pirelli plans to introduce a new specification of Formula 1 tyre from the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, RacingNews365 can exclusively reveal.

Every season, teams provide a projection of their expected performance levels through the following year's championship, with Pirelli then designing a tyre capable of performing to those loads and specifications.

However, the expected performance increase in 2023 was greater than initially predicted, evidenced by the pole position time in Miami of a 1:26.841 being nearly two seconds quicker than in 2022, placing higher stresses on the tyres.

As such, RacingNews365 understands that Pirelli are set to introduce reinforced tyres capable of dealing with the higher than expected loads at Silverstone and for the remainder of the 2023 season.

It is understood that this specification of tyre will be the one that is raced in the 2024 season.

There are no safety concerns about the integrity of the tyres, with RacingNews365 understanding that the FIA has been notified of Pirelli's intentions.

When approached by RacingNews365 for comment, a Pirelli spokesperson could not comment as the approval process is already ongoing.

It is understood that Pirelli is hoping to expedite the approval of their new specification of tyres.

F1's sole tyre supplier is making the changes ahead of the Silverstone race which traditionally features some of the highest tyre loads of the season, with similar such Grands Prix in Belgium, the Netherlands, and Japan all in the second half of the season.

The move will require ratification from the World Motor Sport Council (WMSC) but this is just a formality and will be granted.
