From a general matchup perspective, I definitely like Breanna Stewart’s matchup in this WNBA contest. Why? New York Liberty forward Breanna Stewart will face a Phoenix Mercury defense that has struggled on the defensive side of the basketball all season.

Through 30 Games played in the 2024 WNBA regular season, the Phoenix Mercury are currently ranked a rather low ninth in total team defensive rating (104.4), 12th in total opponent second chance points allowed a Game (12.6), 12th in defensive rebound percentage (67.9%), and ninth in total points allowed in the paint a Game (36.7) Clearly, the data just presented tells us that the Phoenix Mercury are currently not a good defensive basketball team.
