On Saturday afternoon, Major League Baseball presents the third game of a four game American League series between the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox.

How are these two teams playing entering today’s MLB Game? The New York Yankees arrive at the third Game of this four Game American League series with the Boston Red Sox playing quality baseball. The Yankees have won six of the team’s last eight Games played in the 2024 MLB regular season, including a 3-0 shutout win over the Chicago Cubs last week.

In direct contrast to the New York Yankees, the Boston Red Sox have not been playing good baseball recently. The Red Sox have lost four of the team’s last six Games played this season, including a 5-3 loss to the Baltimore Orioles four days ago.

It should be noted that the New York Yankees defeated the Boston Red Sox 5-4 in last night’s second game of this four game American League series.

Now that we have determined how both of these American League teams are currently playing let’s shift our focus to today’s game. New York pitcher Gerrit Cole has established himself as one of the best starting pitchers in the American League. Having stated that, how has the Yankees hurler been playing from a statistical standpoint in 2024? Let’s review Cole’s recent game data to answer that question.

In the 14 games that Gerrit Cole has pitched for the New York Yankees in the 2024 MLB regular season, Cole has posted a 3.36 ERA (Earned Run Average), 1.24 WHIP (walks, hits, inning pitched) and added 85 strikeouts while allowing 24 walks.

More recently, in the New York Yankees 8-4 win over the Toronto Blue Jays 11 days ago, New York starting pitcher Gerrit Cole pitched exceptionally well. More specifically, Cole pitched six quality innings striking out nine Texas batters while allowing four hits and one walk in the Yankees victory over the Guardians. It has to be said, those are the type of DFS numbers I need to see from a player that I select for the captain position.
