'Does not stimulate me': Gabriel from ‘Emily in Paris’ hints he’s done with show | The Express Tribune
Lucas Bravo, the 36-year-old star better known as "Gabriel" of Netflix's popular series “Emily in Paris,” has hinted that he may be finished with the show, citing a lack of intellectual "stimulation".
In a recent interview with the French newspaper Le Figaro, Bravo expressed his concerns about the show's creative direction, stating, “Life is short. It takes five months to shoot this series. Do I want to sacrifice them by telling something that does not stimulate me?”
Bravo, who portrays Gabriel, the charming chef and occasional love interest of Emily Cooper, played by Lily Collins, further elaborated, “I do not want to be a part of a cog that does not tend to take the intelligence of viewers into consideration.”
Emily in Paris renewed for S5
Despite Bravo's reservations, “Emily in Paris” has been renewed for a fifth season, expected to air in mid to late 2025. The show debuted in 2020 and quickly gained a massive following, reportedly being viewed by 58 million households in its first year.

The plot revolves around Emily, an American marketing executive navigating her career and romantic entanglements in Paris.
Bravo isn't the only one to criticize the show's lack of depth. Brooklyn Sports writer Greg Wyshynski previously told The Post, “Remember that scene in ‘Goodfellas’ where they slice the garlic with the razor so it just melts away in the pasta sauce? That’s how thin the characters, plots and stakes are for this television program.”
He added, “No one learns. No one grows. Emily is less protagonist than a passenger in the back of a Parisian taxi … But it’s a good hate watch because it’s not aggressively bad or infuriating. It’s just pretty and it’s there.”
Jenny Marston, a London blogger, also shared her thoughts with The Post, saying, “It’s definitely quite problematic in parts, hugely stereotyped and highly unrealistic.
Particularly in the way that Emily’s Internet fame took off almost literally overnight! All of these things are enough to make you inwardly cringe but because it was such a quirky, fun and light-hearted watch, that’s what kept people tuning in.”
Reflecting on his character, Bravo noted that Gabriel and Emily’s relationship was based on a “1990s idea that lovers pull apart, kiss [and] pull apart again.”
He stated, “Everything is based on a lack of communication. It’s a bit archaic. Today, the new generation expresses [its emotions] and confronts [them]. I would like [Gabriel] to rediscover a bit of panache.”
“I don’t really have any freedom [in Emily in Paris], and as people are starting to give it to me elsewhere, I am getting a taste for it,” he concluded.
