Diogo Jota ruled out of Liverpool's upcoming games through injury
Jurgen Klopp has ruled Diogo Jota out of Liverpool's upcoming fixtures, with the Portuguese forward expected to miss the next two weeks due to injury.
Having only returned to action earlier this month following a knee problem, Jota is sidelined again after discovering discomfort in his hip while scoring against Fulham last Sunday.
Jota's new injury trouble comes at a worrying time for Liverpool, who are still battling Arsenal and Manchester City in the Premier League title race.
Speaking before the Reds make the very short trip across Stanley Park to face Everton on Wednesday night, Klopp revealed the severity of Jota's injury.
"Diogo scored the goal, felt a little bit and now we've found out it's a bit more so he will be out for two weeks," the Liverpool bos explained.
"Before the Game where he didn't start [against Atalanta], he got a knock – normal challenge, then felt a little bit at the hip. That was then fine because we didn't start him, we brought him on, that was alright.
"Then, he started the last game [against Fulham], was obviously okay and then with the finish, it's a small one but we are late in the season so now it's not a great moment for each injury. It's not a big one. When I say two weeks, actually it's pretty much nothing, but enough to not be available."
With Jota out of the picture for the time being, Darwin Nunez is set to step up after spending recent time on the bench. Liverpool will enter the Merseyside derby with plenty to aim for, sitting behind Premier League leaders Arsenal on goal difference alone.
It will be Klopp's final time leading the Reds through the anticipated fixture, before he then bids farewell to his team at the end of the season.
Speaking on the fixture, Klopp said: "I am very positive. You have to win games and I think we know how to do that. We have to overcome each opponent in a specific way."
