Did American gymnast Jordan Chiles appeal the decision to strip her of her Olympic medal?
The legal team representing American gymnast Jordan Chiles has filed an appeal with the Supreme Federal Court of Switzerland, responsible for these cases, to challenge the decision to revoke the bronze medal she briefly held at the Paris Olympic Games.
The 23-year-old gymnast initially placed fourth in the floor exercise, but after a review of her result, she was awarded the bronze medal, moving ahead of Romania’s Ana Bărbosu.
The Romanian team contested the decision at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), and their appeal was successful. However, it was discovered that Jordan Chiles had requested a late review of the results, which led to the decision being overturned.
As a result, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) finally “awarded” the Romanian athlete the bronze medal.
What’s Chiles’s legal team’s claim for the appeal?
The American gymnast’s legal team has officially lodged an appeal with the Swiss Federal Supreme Court.
They assert that they possess video evidence demonstrating that Jordan Chiles filed a review request on time. Furthermore, they have raised concerns about a “serious conflict of interest” that favored the Romanian party during the CAS decision.
Their claim was later highlighted by the revelation that one jury member had served as an adviser to Romania for an extended period of time.
