Devin Haney no longer P4P fighter after loss
It was one of the most bizarre buildups, one of the most entertaining fights, and one of the most unexpected results of the year as Ryan Garcia managed to pull of a stunning win over the previously undefeated two-weight champion Devin Haney.
While the WBC decided to allow Haney to keep his title due to Garcia missing the weight, it would seem as if ESPN was not so understanding.
In their latest pound for pound rankings, the sports giant has dropped Haney out of their top ten, creating an opening for Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez to get his first look at the rankings.
A few sportswriters for the media outlet added Garcia to their top ten, but not enough for him to make the final tally.
Boxing Hall of Famer Timothy Bradley Jr is currently an ESPN analyst and he said that it comes down to the comPetition. “Haney was beaten by a fighter who admittedly was drinking and smoking weeks out before their match. Someone who was out partying nights before their battle. Someone that has never participated in a championship contest. Haney is talented but is no longer a P4P fighter at the moment.”
