The Houston Astros and the Detroit Tigers meet Friday in MLB action from Comerica Park. Here’s a Detroit Tigers vs Houston Astros prediction. This will be the first installment in a three-game series. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best bets for the game.

Houston Astros Betting Preview

The Astros are coming off a series versus the Yankees this week. Houston struggled in the first two installments of that set, losing 10-3 Tuesday and 9-4 in game two. On Thursday in the finale the Astros were able to stave off the sweep with a 4-3 win. Starting pitcher Ronel Blanco put up 5.2 innings with two earned on four hits and four walks.

As starting pitcher for Friday’s matchup, the Astros will send out Framber Valdez. This year Valdez is 1-1 with a 3.97 ERA in four starts. He’s got 19 Ks in 22.2 innings. Valdez is 54-35 with a 3.42 ERA in 133 career Games (111 starts).

Detroit Tigers Betting Preview

Over on the Tigers’ side, they took on the Cleveland Guardians this week. Detroit managed an 11-7 win on Tuesday in game two, but otherwise lost 2-1 Monday and 5-4 in the finale. In Wednesday’s loss, the Tigers fell in 10 innings after a good start from Reese Olson who notched 6.0 innings, one earned, one hit and two walks.

It’ll be Casey Mize in the starting pitcher role for the Tigers on Friday. This year Mize is 1-1 with a 3.98 ERA in six starts. He has 24 Ks in 31.2 innings total. Mize is 8-14 with a 4.25 ERA over 45 career Games in the MLB.

Detroit Tigers vs Houston Astros Prediction

I might take a stab on Detroit here. Mize needs a bounce-back start, though. In his last appearance, Mize went 5.1 innings with five earned on nine hits and one walk in a loss versus the Yankees. Prior to that, however, Mize had a combined 11.0 innings, two earned, 11 hits and three walks in two starts. Detroit has scored a combined 15 runs in their last two Games—but they’ve also given up 12 runs on the other side in that pair.

As for the Astros, on Thursday they bagged 11 team hits, but not a lot happened on the scoreboard after the first inning. Ryan Pressly (0.2 innings; one hit; one earned; one walk) was a little shaky, but otherwise the bullpen did well. This matchup will probably be close as well, but I think the Tigers have a shot.
