Kawhi Leonard is injured to start the 2024-25 NBA season. Since signing him, the Los Angeles Clippers have not gotten the franchise-altering superstar that the Toronto Raptors previously won a championship with.

Over the summer L.A. decided that its dynamic duo of Leonard and Paul George wasn’t going to win a championship. Upon coming to that realization, they shipped George off to Philly.

Now many are wondering if Leonard is next.

This week, a blockbuster NBA trade proposal went viral suggesting that Leonard could end up with the Golden State Warriors.

In the proposed deal Leonard would end up in The Bay, while Andrew Wiggins, Brandin Podziemski, De’Anthony Melton, Gary Payton II and a 2026 first rounder would be sent to Los Angeles.

“Acquiring Kawhi Leonard would elevate the Golden State Warriors to the top tier of title contenders in the Western Conference, instantly giving Stephen Curry a superstar-caliber running mate…

“The Warriors have shown over the years that their system thrives when they have versatile wing defenders, and Leonard might be the best in the business when healthy,” the report notes.

“With Draymond Green locking down the paint and Leonard taking on the toughest perimeter assignments, Golden State’s defense would once again be championship-level.”

What would Los Angeles get?

“For the Clippers, this trade would represent the end of an era defined by ‘what ifs’ and missed opportunities,” the report added.

“Kawhi Leonard was supposed to be the franchise savior when he arrived in 2019, but constant injuries and bad luck have plagued his time in L.A. He played just 109 games in two seasons before missing the entirety of the 2022 season. He finally played 68 games last season, but was injured for the postseason and is out to begin the 2024-25 campaign. Safe to say, it isn’t working out for Leonard in Los Angeles.”

There are currently 2 legit suitors for Jonathan Kuminga of the Warriors, but he could also be included in this deal.

It is rare that a superstar of Leonard’s status gets traded and the deal be described as a win-win, but that is precisely what would happen here.

Leonard needs to leave L.A. The Clippers need to move on. The Warriors need another superstar to pair with Curry. Everyone involved would emerge from this trade getting something they want.
