Chris Sutton Piles on the Misery as Rangers Fail to Close Gap on Celtic
Chris Sutton couldn’t resist piling on the misery for Rangers fans after their 1-0 defeat to Kilmarnock, delivering a scathing tweet that summed up their woes. The former Celtic striker, who has long been a thorn in the side of the Ibrox club, took to Twitter after the Game, writing: “Rangers were well and truly Killied. Well played Kilmarnock👏👏 A superbly organised and disciplined performance. Celtic and Aberdeen widen the gap at the top…”
Sutton’s tweet was a blunt reminder of how far Rangers have fallen behind in the title race. Despite going into the this Game with a chance to close the gap on Celtic and Aberdeen, Rangers once again failed to take advantage. Their defeat at Rugby Park leaves them six points behind both rivals, a reality Sutton was more than happy to point out.
The loss against Kilmarnock came just a day after Celtic’s pulsating 2-2 draw with Aberdeen at Celtic Park. Brendan Rodgers’ side had let a two-goal lead slip, but Aberdeen’s point saw both clubs maintain extend their distance from Rangers. The Ibrox side had the opportunity to cut the gap to three points but instead turned in another lifeless display, failing to create enough chances against a well-drilled Kilmarnock side.
Sutton’s comments, praising Kilmarnock’s organisation and discipline, were a further twist of the knife for Rangers supporters, who watched their team register just three shots on target—a stat that matched Kilmarnock’s effort. It was a disappointing performance from Philippe Clement’s side, who now find themselves increasingly adrift from the top two.
Celtic, despite being held by Aberdeen, still find themselves in a relatively strong position after eight Games, with only the Dons posing a serious challenge at the moment. Sutton’s tweet, while light-hearted on the surface, underlined just how crucial the weekend’s results were in the early stages of this season’s title race. For Rangers, the gap is widening, and Sutton made sure no one missed the significance.
