Rod Stewart reveals Peter Lawwell’s response to Nicolas Kuhn criticism
Nicolas Kuhn is proving that patience pays off, silencing critics with his electrifying performances for Celtic after a challenging start to life in Glasgow.
One early doubter, Celtic fan Rod Stewart, has now admitted he was quick to write off the German winger before being urged to “give him a chance” by club chairman Peter Lawwell.
The 24-year-old joined Celtic during the January transfer window at a time when Brendan Rodgers’ side were struggling to play their best Football. Kuhn initially found it tough to adapt, with poor form leading to questions about whether he could make it at the club. His struggles were compounded by dental issues that caused significant weight loss and hampered his physical condition.
Speaking on talkSPORT, Stewart recalled voicing his concerns about Kuhn to Lawwell:
“Yeah, Kuhn has been a good signing. I remember he got off to a really bad start. I remember I said to Peter Lawwell, the chairman, I said ‘he isn’t going to last’.
“And Peter said ‘just give him a chance. He had all his back teeth out and he’s in great pain’. But, my God, has he come through?! I just hope we can hold onto him for another season.”
Since then, Kuhn has transformed into one of Celtic’s standout performers, racking up key goals and assists in both domestic and European comPetitions. His pace, creativity, and ability to unlock defences have made him indispensable to Rodgers’ system.
Kuhn has went on the journey from being doubted by the support to being a fan favourite.
With his current form, he has not only silenced doubters but also established himself as one of the key players driving the team’s success this season.
As the January transfer window looms, Kuhn’s performances have to drawn attention from elsewhere, but for now, Celtic aren’t looking to sell the player.
