Chris Sutton makes Celtic claim after latest Dundee Rangers fixture update

The title race is really starting to take shape now that Celtic have fulfilled all their post-split Scottish Premiership fixtures.

After Rangers’ trip to Dingwall today, the Ibrox club have one more game in to see out and then we will know precisely where Brendan Rodgers‘ team stands heading into the final five games of the season.

Well, that depends on whether or not the game at Dens Park goes ahead. The fixture has been postponed twice as the adverse wet weather conditions play havoc with the Dundee pitch and now it’s scheduled to go ahead this coming Wednesday.

SPFL Rangers contingency plan could ‘upset’ Celtic

According to The Courier, the Game could be moved to McDiarmid Park as St Johnstone offer a Plan B should the Dens Park pitch fail a Tuesday morning pitch inspection.

And that is a decision that Chris Sutton believes could potentially upset Celtic.

Sutton said [Sky Sports], “I would say well, what can the strategy be? I mean, you talk about sporting integrity. There’s a title race going on.

“If the game isn’t played at Dundee on Wednesday evening then or if this game isn’t going to be played at Dundee, then Celtic have got every right to feel a bit unhappy about that.

“I think it should be played at Dundee if it’s not then we’ll see what happens.”

In a way, I can see Sutton’s point. Playing at a neutral venue when the title race is so close means that Rangers do have an unfair advantage as Dundee will lose their home crowd for the Game.

Just how many supporters the Dens Park club would take to Perth is unknown but you could bet it is significantly lower than what they would had the Game been played at Dens Park.

Not only that, Dundee also loses the advantage of playing at their own park and as any football player will tell you, there is nothing quite like playing in the comfort of your own grass and home.

Whatever happens on Wednesday night, at least we know the game will be concluded and after today’s result, we can only hope the result goes one way. In the interest of sporting integrity, of course.
