Former Celtic utility man Charlie Mulgrew made an encouraging observation about Brendan Rodgers when he visited Lennoxtown last season.

The 38-year-old was widely linked with the Hoops’ under-18s role and was interviewed for the job, but in the end, was unsuccessful. Instead, he took his first steps into management with Hamilton Accies U18s.

Back as he was preparing to step into coaching, Mulgrew got to pick the brains of Rodgers. He was allowed to observe a training session and speak in-depth to the Parkhead boss.

A positive and hugely useful experience for Mulgrew, while speaking to the Irishman, he noticed something that should encourage Celtic supporters.

“A lot of managers say they are here for the long-term but really they’ve got one eye on potentially going down south.”, he said (The Scottish Sun).

“I can’t speak for him but Brendan, in my opinion, looks to me as if he wants to be here for the long term.

“He’s been down south and now he’s back.

“It seems to me he’s really settled here and wants to be here for the long term and to really make the club better right through from the youths, to challenge in Europe and be successful.”

When he returned to Celtic last summer, Rodgers more or less confirmed he would be at the club to see out his three-year contract, unless he is sacked.

The gaffer has a long-term vision for the club and in his first season back at the helm, gave himself something to build upon.

A domestic double provides room for progress in 2024/25 as Rodgers aims to maintain domestic dominance and finally challenge in Europe with his side.
