Celtic are one of the most sizeable clubs in Europe, and their faNBAse reflects that fact, reaching every corner of the world.

If you are jetting off on holiday this summer, the chances are you won’t be too far away from a supporters club to watch the Bhoys in action.

Unsurprisingly, this phenomenon transcends to individuals currently involved in professional Football, one of whom is Aston Villa captain John McGinn. He is a well-known admirer of the club and has family ties to Parkhead.

His grandfather, Jack McGinn, is a former Celtic chairman, and his grandson nearly joined the reigning Scottish Premiership champions in 2018 before pitching up in the West Midlands [Sky Sports].

In truth, his move to Aston Villa has been a major success, as the Villans have made their way from Sky Bet Championship strugglers to top-four contenders in the Premier League.

Becoming skipper under Unai Emery, McGinn has amassed 226 appearances in all comPetitions for his current employers, registering 25 goals and 31 assists [Transfermarkt].

Some Celtic fans may wonder what could have been regarding the Scotland international; regardless, he hasn’t forgotten his roots and is still regularly found talking about the Bhoys in interviews frequently.

John McGinn pays tribute to Celtic icon Shunsuke Nakamura

Speaking to Aston Villa’s official Japanese X account, McGinn has paid tribute to Celtic icon Shunsuke Nakamura after being questioned on where he would like to visit in Japan.

The 29-year-old indicated he would like to go to Yokohama, a choice inspired by one of his Parkhead heroes who announced his retirement from football in 2022.

McGinn stated: “Tokyo. I have always wanted to visit Tokyo but also Yokohama, as one of my favourite ever Celtic players, Shunsuke Nakamura, played for Yokohama Marinos. I think he only recently retired, so Naka, what a player, number 25, what a guy.”

Nakamura was one of the most cultured Footballers ever to pull on green and white, possessing a goal catalogue at Celtic that would make most elite players weep with jealousy.

Clearly, McGinn feels the same way many of us do about the former Japan international, who gave supporters some long-lasting memories to cherish forever.
