Celtic captain Callum McGregor thinks the Hoops did more than enough to beat Aberdeen on Saturday afternoon.

Despite leading 2-0 at the break, the Bhoys collapsed early in the second half.

Japanese duo Reo Hatate and Kyogo Furuhashi gave the Hoops a comfortable advantage, but a well-worked team goal from the visitors, along with an uncharacteristic lackadaisical Daizen Maeda error, saw the Dons get themselves back level by the hour mark.

Despite an onslaught on the Aberdeen goal in the closing stages, the Premiership champions couldn’t find a winner, which would have sparked jubilant scenes in Paradise.

Manager Brendan Rodgers thinks his team should have won the Game, and captain McGregor thinks the Bhoys did enough to emerge victorious, too.

“I think we still did enough to win the Game, especially in the last 15 to 20 minutes,” he said (Celtic FC on YouTube).

“We created enough big chances ourselves in terms of the cut-back space we try to get into, and a lot of balls flashed across goal. We had a big chance at the end with a header and the little stramash after that.

“I thought it was enough in the first half and in the last 20 minutes, on probability, we probably win that Game.”

On another day, the Bhoys would likely have scored late on to take a three-point lead over Aberdeen, but it wasn’t to be.

In fairness to the Pittodrie side, their defence was as resolute as ever, particularly in the dying embers.

Jimmy Thelin’s side – at least in the second half – lived up to the hype surrounding them going into the Game and gave Celtic as difficult a domestic fixture as any side has at Parkhead over the past few years.

Although the Hoops were poor and complacent at times, credit has to be given to the Dons for their spirit to come back and willingness to defend with their lives in the dying embers.
