Caleb Williams’ Bears Teammates Already Hate Him

Caleb Williams came out of USC with a lot of drama surrounding him. He became something of a prima donna midway through his college run, and a guy whose petulance and weirdness became legitimate red flags heading into the NFL Draft.

Just before getting selected by the Chicago Bears with the top overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, Williams abruptly decided to go on vacation to Tokyo. That didn’t really endear him to folks either.

So how has he been faring since entering the league? Not great, it seems.

This week Bears safety Kevin Byard relayed 670 The Score an anecdote about Williams’ message to the team regarding being cleaner.

“First thing he said was, ‘Hey, man, we’re all grown men here, right?'” Byard said.

“He was like ‘We’re getting a little too sloppy. We’re leaving water bottles, towels and all types of things around. Custodians have a lot of square footage that they have to cover in this whole building. Let’s try to help them out by cleaning up after ourselves.’”

According to former New York Giants wide receiver Amani Toomer, stuff like this is why Williams’ teammates hate him.

“He’s Russell Wilson 2.0. This is not going to go over well,” Toomer predicted.

“If you came in the locker room, I’ve been in this locker room for eight years, and some rookie’s going to come in who hasn’t played one snap, wearing the fingernail polish, he’s going to come in here and tell me, who’s been here through the struggle, that I need to clean up? How about, rookie, you clean up after me? Don’t give me this crap.

“I don’t like it at all. I feel like rookies should earn their respect. Just because you got drafted No. 1 doesn’t mean nothing to me because I don’t even know if you’re good.”

Obviously a lot will depend on how good Williams is with the Bears next year. If he ends up being solid – no one will care about his weirdness.

If he is bad, though – folks will have a lot less patience for stuff like this.
