The Hoops were hammered at Signal Iduna Park as the Bundesliga giants put on a show in the UEFA Champions League.

It was an embarrassing night for Rodgers’ men, who simply couldn’t cope with the speed, power, and talent of an unforgiving Dortmund team.

Tuesday was the fourth time boss Rodgers has conceded six or more goals in a single Champions League Game in charge of Celtic.

He is refusing to change his high-pressing, attacking style of play against elite European sides. One can’t help but feel he needs to, or these continual drubbings will become regular.

According to the manager, they leave fans disappointed and scar the players emotionally.

Speaking at Lennoxtown yesterday, Rodgers opened up on the mood of his squad following their loss in Germany.

“There was disappointment in the aftermath of it,” he said (Celtic FC on YouTube).

“It’s always emotionally challenging and difficult.

“You have that day to grieve, which is never nice, but always think that setbacks like that are a great opportunity to grow and bounce back – even to a higher level than you were when you started the Game.”

Celtic fans want to see improvements against Atalanta in a few weeks and, at least, avoid another thumping.

Last season’s Europa League winners will provide another stern test to Rodgers and Co.

The Hoops need to shore up in Bergamo and avoid a similar performance to Tuesday’s horror show.

Taking any points home from Italy will be a considerable challenge, but even a performance which encourages fans will be seen as a positive.
