Brendan Rodgers explains why everyone is now seeing the true ‘power’ of Celtic
With three league matches to go and a Scottish Cup final to look forward to, Celtic are carrying a fair bit of momentum.
Brendan Rodgers’ Bhoys are unbeaten in their last eight matches with the only draw coming away to Rangers at Ibrox when there weren’t any Celtic supporters in the stadium.
It’s the perfect time of the campaign to hit some form with wins very much needed and no real room for error, just three points ahead at the top of the table.
For the Celtic boss, it’s a sign of getting his team into a position he’s wanted since his return – injury-free, united with the support and coping admirably with pressure.
Rodgers credits this developing re-connection with supporters as a crucial part of what’s happening with the team right now.
Celtic fans are ‘extension’ of the team
Speaking after beating Hearts on Saturday, the Celtic manager said [Yahoo Sport]: “If you give players time to play then they can play but we started to press it better and once we were able to solidify at half time, I thought we were a lot better and looked a dominant team.
“It is such an important point of the season, I have always said it, the team is an extension of the supporters and when that concentration is on the Football, and everyone is focused you see the power Celtic has. The energy rolled from the stands down onto the field and hopefully the fans were happy with that.
“I will tell we are champions if and when it happens. In the meantime, we won’t get too carried away. We will stay calm recover, get our team ready and then next week will be incredible. The atmosphere here… and a big chance to add more pressure.”
No more distractions for Celtic
It’s fair to say that Rodgers’ return wasn’t universally popular with Celtic supporters. It was never going to be given the nature of his exit first time around and he admitted that from the start.
There have been plenty of other distractions and negative talking points around the club this season, including lacklustre transfer activity.
However, all of that is behind us now and everyone knows what is at stake over the next few weeks. The players are focused, the fans are backing them with the energy Rodgers wants and it all bodes well for eventual success.
Give it one final push this month and we can all enjoy another summer of celebration.
