Benjamin Mendy found not guilty of rape and attempted rape
Benjamin Mendy has been found not guilty on one count of rape and another of attempted rape.
The former Manchester City left-back had been accused of raping a woman in October 2020 and attempting to rape a different woman two years earlier. Both incidents were alleged to have taken place at his home.
Mendy was found not guilty on six counts of rape earlier this year but an additional two charges were moved to a retrial this summer.
He has now been cleared on both charges by a 12-person jury at Chester Crown Court.
Mendy was first charged by Cheshire Constabulary back in August 2021 and remanded into custody while still under contract with Man City. His contract expired at the end of June having not played for the club in nearly two years.
The 28-year-old made 75 appearances for Man City after joining from Monaco in 2017, while he was also part of the France squad that won the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
