Chelsea have reached an agreement to extend the contract of left-back Ben Chilwell, 90min can confirm.

Chilwell is approaching the final two years of his current contract and Chelsea's new stance - anyone entering the final 24 months of their deals is at risk of being sold - drew interest from Premier League rivals Manchester City.

Sources have confirmed to 90min that City's interest saw Chelsea accelerate renewal talks with Chilwell, who has now agreed the terms of an extension to his deal which would see him commit to the Blues until 2027.

Chilwell has been one of Chelsea's standout performers this season, fighting off comPetition from summer signing Marc Cucurella to retain his spot as the regular starter on the left side of the Blues' defence.

The 26-year-old, who missed the World Cup with a hamstring injury, has managed two goals and three assists in 19 Premier League appearances this season.

Elsewhere, talks remain on with midfielder N'Golo Kante, who is close to extending his stay at Stamford Bridge, but a number of players face uncertain futures heading into the summer.

Midfielder Mason Mount has been warned that he will be sold at the end of the season if he does not extend his contract, and a number of Premier League rivals have made it abundantly clear they are prepared to take advantage of the situation - although whether Graham Potter's exit from the dugout will impact things remains to be seen.

Decisions will also be made on the rest of the squad whose deals expire in 2024 and 2025: Mateo Kovacic, Cesar Azpilicueta, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Christian Pulisic, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Kai Havertz, Hakim Ziyech, Edouard Mendy and Conor Gallagher. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, whose deal runs out in 2024, is available for transfer.

A lot could come down to Chelsea's choice for their next permanent manager. Frank Lampard has been recruited as caretaker boss while club officials chase a long-term solution, with Julian Nagelsmann, Luis Enrique and Mauricio Pochettino among the names of Chelsea's radar.
