Arsenal ready to build Arsene Wenger statue 'as early as 2023'
Arsenal are preparing to honour legendary Arsene Wenger with a statue outside the Emirates Stadium in the near future.
Wenger, who won ten trophies in over two decades in north London, returned to N5 for the first time since leaving his post as Gunners boss on Boxing Day, watching on from the stands as Mikel Arteta's side came from behind to beat West Ham.
Arguably the most significant figure in Arsenal's history, there have long been calls for the club to tangibly honour the Frenchman.
And according to the Daily Telegraph, plans are afoot to build a statue outside the Emirates Stadium potentially as soon as 2023.
Arsenal have already erected statues of club legends Herbert Chapman, Tony Adams, Dennis Bergkamp and Thierry Henry around the ground, with Wenger now set to follow.
Wenger oversaw Arsenal's move from Highbury to the Emirates Stadium, notably navigating them through a period of debt which forced them to sell key players year on year.
He won the club's last Premier League title back in 2004, leading the Gunners through an unbeaten season. They were subsequently awarded a golden trophy for this achievement, and Wenger was handed this to keep upon leaving Arsenal in 2018.
