Former Rangers man and the butt of many jokes from Celtic fans – Andy Halliday – can’t help but feel the Hoops will be the happier of the two Glasgow sides following Sunday’s derby.

The visitors took an early lead at Ibrox through Daizen Maeda. Matt O’Riley doubled the advantage just over half an hour later although in the second half, the Gers hit back.

They found themselves level with a few minutes to go but Adam Idah sparked jubilant scenes in the away dugout. Rabbi Matondo’s late leveller, though, ensured the spoils were shared in an enthralling clash.

There has been widescale debate after the Game surrounding what team the result benefitted more, and Halliday thinks it is Celtic.

Despite being a Rangers diehard, the Motherwell midfielder believes the Hoops will be confident going into the closing Games of the season that they can win the league.

He said: [Clyde 1 Superscoreboard via RecordSport] “When you step back, and look at the magnitude of the league going forward, no doubt the draw benefits Celtic more than it does Rangers.

“Both teams effectively have the title in their hands but from the showings that we’ve seen in Old Firms this season, and Celtic having four home Games from their remaining six, they will be confident of beating Rangers at Celtic Park.”

As the title race approaches its climax, Celtic need to be at the top of their Game. Although many are saying the weekend’s result suits them more, it counts for nothing if they don’t build on it.

Backing it up starts this weekend when St. Mirren comes to Parkhead in the last league Game before the split.
