Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant are the new power couple, who belong to two of the richest Indian Business families by net worth. The couple got officially engaged on 19 January 2023 in Mumbai.

Before the engagement, a traditional roka was held on 29 December 2022 at the Shrinathji Temple in Rajasthan, in the presence of family members.

“Anant and Radhika have known each other for a few years and today’s ceremony commences the formal journey of their marriage in the coming months. Both families seek the blessings and good wishes of everyone for Radhika and Anant as they start their journey of togetherness,” read an official statement by the Ambani family at the time.

The post-roka celebration was attended at the family’s residence, Antilia, in Mumbai by Bollywood stars such as Shah Rukh Khan, Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Ranbir Kapoor and Janhvi Kapoor. The couple’s extravagant pre-wedding celebrations were held across three days from 1 to 3 March 2024 in Jamnagar, Gujarat.

Anant Ambani is a widely known business personality in India. He is the youngest son of billionaire Mukesh Ambani and Nita Ambani. His older siblings are twins, Akash and Isha Ambani.

Akash is married to Shloka Mehta, the daughter of renowned diamond magnate Russell Mehta. Isha is married to Anand Piramal, the executive director of the Piramal Group of Companies and son of the company’s chairman, billionaire Ajay Piramal.

Radhika Merchant is the daughter of the tycoon Viren Merchant and Shaila Merchant. Her family hails from Kutch in Gujarat.

Outside of her Education and professional achievements, Merchant is particularly known as a classical dancer. According to The Times of India, she learned Bharatnatyam for over eight years and is trained at Shree Nibha Arts, Mumbai, under the guidance of Guru Bhavana Thakar.

In June 2022, Mukesh and Nita Ambani hosted the Arangetram ceremony of Radhika Merchant at Jio World Centre in Mumbai. Arangetram is a Tamil word which refers to the elevation of a classical dance student to a higher level. In other words, the ceremony marks the formal completion of a dancer’s training.

According to Indian media reports, Radhika Merchant did her schooling at Cathedral & John Connon School in Mumbai.

Founded in 1860, the school is renowned for producing some of India’s finest talents and brightest minds, including JRD Tata, Ratan Tata, Anand Mahindra, Salman Rushdie, Anita and Kiran Desai, and Homi Jehangir Bhabha.

She then reportedly studied at École Mondiale World School, also in Mumbai. The school follows the International Baccalaureate (IB) programmes of Education.

Depending on the grade and the board, the annual fees for a student in either school can go up to several hundred thousand in Indian currency. Radhika Merchant subsequently enrolled at New York University to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Politics and economics.

Indian media reports are unclear where Radhika Merchant started her professional career. However, most agree that she has worked with the consulting firm Desai & Diwanji and India First Organisation.

She has also reportedly worked with luxury holiday home developer Isprava Group, which is a renowned real-estate company backed by Nadir Godrej, Anand Piramal and the Burman family of Dabur India.

She is currently part of the board of directors at Encore Healthcare.

Like his older siblings, Isha and Akash, Anant Ambani, too, completed his higher education in the US, graduating from Brown University.
