NFL Draft 2024 live online: First-round picks, teams, players and big board updates

With the 2024 NFL Draft right around the corner, here at AS USA we thought it would be a good idea to run through some of the expected big picks for the event.

Caleb Sequan Williams is certainly someone who is set to feature heavily in this year’s draft, with many expecting him to be the first pick. Let’s take a look at exactly why the 22-year-old (November 18, 2001) Washington native is such a hot topic.

How tall is Caleb Williams?

Let’s get physical. Caleb Williams stands at 6-foot-1 (1.85m) and weighs in at 215 pounds (98kg), almost the same as acrobatic WWE wrestler Jeff Hardy, just one inch shorter.

However, despite the joke about Williams being as tall and ‘light’ as a high-flying wrestler from the early 2000s, one of his strengths that we’ve seen on plenty of occasions is his ability to throw both on the move and standing, which is what sets him apart in this category. His height, at the end of the day, is not an issue, as his record shows when it comes to throwing over linemen.

The 2024 NFL Draft is scheduled for April 25-27, with each day starting at a specific (ET) time.

  • Thursday, April 25: Round 1 (8 p.m.)
  • Friday, April 26: Rounds 2-3 (7 p.m.)
  • Saturday, April 27: Rounds 4-7 (12 p.m.)

Here's how to watch the 2024 NFL Draft

What are Caleb Williams’ college stats?

Caleb Williams’ explosion onto the scene went like this: The year was 2021 and Williams had just began his freshman season as the backup to Spencer Rattler. The young QB watched on patiently until Rattler was benched during a Week 6 Game against The University of Texas.

Caleb entered the game late in the second quarter with Oklahoma trailing 55-48, and he almost single-handedly led his team to one of their biggest comeback victories in school history. He kept the starting slot until the end of the season. Williams finished with 1912 passing yards on 212 attempts with a 64.2% completion rate for an average of 9.0 yards per pass, with 21 TDs, while taking 19 sacks.

Williams then followed head coach Lincoln Riley to USC. It was there in 2022 where he threw a mind-blowing 42 touchdowns against just five interceptions. He put up 4,000 yards on 450 attempts with a completion rate of 66.0% for an average of 9.1 yards per pass. His 37 TDs and QB rating of 118.6 meant people simply didn’t have time to look back after that History-changing introduction against the Texans.

This raw talent is what made the University of California quarterback the recipient of the the Heisman Trophy in 2022, the highest honour in college football.

Caleb Williams awards and records:

  • 2022 Heisman Trophy winner
  • 2022 holds the USC single-season record for total offense (4,919 yards), most touchdowns scored rushing and passing (52), passing completions (333), passes attempted (500), most passing yards gained (4,537), most touchdown passes thrown (42)
  • 2022 Maxwell Award
  • 2022 Walter Camp Awar
  • 2022 Sporting News College Football Player of the Year
  • 2021 True Freshman All-American by ESPN, 247Sports, On3 and Pro Football Focus
  • 2021 semifinalist for the Walter Camp Player of the Year, Davey O’Brien National Quarterback
  • 2018 Gatorade District of Columbia Football Player of the Year and a MaxPreps Sophomore All-American

A year later, his numbers dipped slightly, but still managed to put up a 30-5 record, tossing 6 times more touchdowns as picks.

There have been, at times, some concerns over his style of throwing, but these are worries that a solid coach can iron out over time. Whether its slightly-too-high numbers of fumbles (10 in 2023) or picks, fans have grumbled (as fans do) at Williams during the course of these few years, but the incredible potential Caleb has consistently put on display gives everyone more hope than anything else.
