The 2023 Pan American Games opening ceremony will be held at Santiago’s National Stadium on October 20, 2023. The Parade of Nations is the highlight of the event, with athletes proudly carrying their national flags and leading their delegations into the stadium. The organizers made a significant move towards gender equality by allowing teams to choose both a male and female flag bearer at the ceremony, following the precedent set at the 2020 Summer Olympics.

The parade follows a traditional order, with Argentina leading the procession as the first historical host of the first Pan-American Games. The Chilean delegation enters last, representing the host nation. The remaining countries entered the stadium in Spanish alphabetical order, as per the Pan American Sports Organization protocol.

The 2023 Pan American Games will feature 39 Sports, with 423 events in total. Three new disciplines have been added to the comPetition for the first time: breaking, skateboarding (as part of roller Sports), and sport climbing. These additions will bring an exciting new dimension to the Games and will captivate the audience. However, bodybuilding, which debuted at the 2019 Games, will not be featured this year.

Taekwondo enthusiasts will be thrilled to hear that men’s and women’s team Kyorugi events have been added to the program, promising even more intense and captivating action. Athletes will battle it out in various Sports, including cycling, diving, fencing, gymnastics, handball, karate, rowing, sailing, soccer, swimming, Tennis, volleyball, and many more.
