Why was Jonathan Dos Santos fined over Jesús Gallardo incident?
Controversy once again emerged in the Liga MX, as during the match between Monterrey’s Rayados and Club América’s Águilas, Footballer Jesús Gallardo injured Uruguayan player Brian Rodríguez in what could be perceived as his eagerness to gain possession of the ball. Due to the forceful challenge, the América player could no longer continue on the field and could now face a spell on the sidelines.
Following the conclusion of the Game, midfielder Jonathan Dos Santos expressed his displeasure with his compatriot, stating that the Monterrey player had threatened and intentionally injured the South American player. Subsequently, the Liga MX Disciplinary Committee decided to hit him with a financial penalty, as announced through an official statement.
Dos Santos fined for Gallardo accusations
“Following the reckless statements made by Club América’s player, Jonathan Dos Santos, in the access zone to the dressing rooms after the conclusion of the match between Rayados de Monterrey and América, it was determined to impose a financial penalty on the player, who violated Article 6.1. Furthermore, Club América is penalized for not complying with the protocols established by Liga MX regarding authorized press areas,” reads the publication.
The Disciplinary Committee also issued a warning to Dos Santos, advising him against engaging in such indiscipline in the future. “Lastly, the player is cautioned about his future conduct, as in the event of a recurrence of such violations, the Disciplinary Committee may impose more severe sanctions against him,” it added.
The Águilas have assessed the condition of Rodríguez, who suffered a dislocation in his left knee, and his return to the field remains uncertain. In the meantime, América leads the Apertura 2023 with 33 points, consisting of 10 wins, three draws, and one loss.
