Why Gasly is 'crossing his fingers' for Alpine progress in 2023
Pierre Gasly has conceded that he has faith in AlphaTauri being able to find a big step forward after their disappointing season.
The Frenchman has enjoyed a successful period at the Red Bull 'junior' team. Since his switch back from the Red Bull team in 2019, he has taken a podium - including one win - in every season he's raced for the team, except in 2022.
With AlphaTauri being one of the teams to lose out in the regulation changes for 2022, the Faenza-based squad dropped from P6 to P9 in the Constructors' Standings.
The car frustrations are likely to have taken their toll on Gasly, who was only confirmed as an Alpine driver once a replacement at AlphaTauri was found: Nyck de Vries.
By contrast, Alpine are a team who are battling at the top of the 'midfield' battle, and Gasly replaces Fernando Alonso at the team who secured P4 in the Constructors'' Standings.

Given the difference in championship standing between Alpine and AlphaTauri, Gasly was asked if he believed his team switch was well-timed.
Gasly responded by saying that AlphaTauri are going to 'change their car concept' for 2023, something which could yield drastic improvements for the Italian team.
"In this sport, it's so difficult to know what's going to happen from one year to another," Gasly told media, including TheFOXposts.Com.
"We [AlphaTauri] were top of the midfield last season. This year, we were back of the midfield.
"Next season, who knows? I know AlphaTauri are completely changing the concept of the car, they could be back in the fight.
"It's difficult to say, I think what's important is just to work and prepare ourselves in the best possible. I'm crossing my fingers that the Alpine package is going to be a bit stronger."
